Where Does Dade City’s Water Come From?

Groundwater sources constitute the primary water supply for Dade City. Wells, which extract water from the Floridan Aquifer, a significant underground limestone formation underlying much of Florida and functioning as a key drinking water source for the state, generally sustain the city.

The city treats the groundwater from these wells to fulfill all required quality criteria prior to dispensing it to residential, commercial, and industrial premises via its water distribution network.

Contaminants

The water sources for Dade City’s residences generally contain trace amounts of a number of different contaminants. Local governments routinely test and provide reports on these. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.

This includes:

Arsenic
Chromium
Chlorine
Lead
Harmful bacteria

However, because residents only drink about 1% of the water in these systems, the government does not have the resources to eliminate all of these contaminants completely.
