Where Does Palmetto’s Water Come From?
Palmetto primarily gets its water supply from a combination of groundwater and surface water sources.
Groundwater: Palmetto obtains a significant portion of its water from wells that draw water from the Floridan Aquifer. The Floridan Aquifer is a vast underground limestone formation that underlies much of Florida and serves as a major source of drinking water for the state.
Surface water: additionally, Palmetto may also draw water from nearby rivers, lakes, or reservoirs as a supplemental source during times of higher demand or to ensure water availability during dry periods.
Contaminants
The water sources for Palmetto residences generally contain trace amounts of several different contaminants. To address this issue, the Manatee County government routinely tests and provides reports on this. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.
These include:
- Arsenic
- Chromium
- Chlorine
- Lead
