Where Does North Port’s Water Come From?
North Port primarily gets its water supply from a combination of groundwater and surface water sources.
Groundwater is sourced from wells that draw water from the Floridan Aquifer, a vast underground limestone formation that spans much of Florida and provides a significant portion of the state’s drinking water.
In addition to groundwater, North Port may also supplement its water supply with surface water sources such as lakes, rivers, or reservoirs.
Contaminants
The water sources for North Port residences generally contain trace amounts of several different contaminants. To address this issue, the Sarasota County government routinely tests and provides reports on this. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.
These include:
- Arsenic
- Chromium
- Chlorine
- Lead
