Where Does Oldsmar’s Water Come From?
Oldsmar’s water supply comes from brackish water pulled out of wells around the city, which is then passed through two stages that remove the salt.
The newly created freshwater is then sent through a purification and stabilization process to decrease contaminants to below levels required by regulations. Treated water is sent to storage tanks and out to customers.
Contaminants
The water sources for Oldsmar residences generally contain trace amounts of several different contaminants. To address this issue, local governments routinely test and provide reports on these. They are required to keep these levels below what is considered toxic, according to regulation.
These include:
- Arsenic
- Chromium
- Chlorine
- Lead
- Harmful bacteria
