The town of Glenville is located in Schenectady County, New York. It was incorporated in 1821 and has around 29,000 residents.

Last week, Town Board members voted to keep Robert King and Stag Liuzza, a law firm that represents numerous municipalities nationwide in a class action lawsuit against companies like 3M and DuPont. These companies are responsible for the PFAS contaminants, often called “forever chemicals.”
The town won’t need to pay anything upfront for this agreement. However, if the town officials settle out of court or if there is any trial award, a 25% contingency fee applies.
The town may not know how much it might gain, but it says it will use any money received to upgrade the drinking water plant’s carbon filtration system. This system can remove these harmful chemicals from the town’s drinking water, which serves about 7,000 residents.
PFAS chemicals are in various everyday items like non-stick cookware, clothing, plastic containers, and certain types of insulation. Local officials have discovered traces of these chemical in local drinking water systems across the country. PFAS contaminants have connections to specific cancers, weakened immune systems, and other health problems.
In March, the EPA proposed new regulations lowering allowable contaminant levels to 4 parts per trillion. The federal government has allocated funds to address these contaminants through a recently approved infrastructure bill.
