How Much is a Water Test in Florida?

Let’s address another common question we have been seeing: “How much is a water test in Florida?”

In this post we will explore different options available.

Government Water Testing

The Florida Departments of Health in each county offer drinking water test kits with instructions to collect the sample yourself. These currently go for $20.

In some cases, county staff can go to your home and collect the samples for you, usually for an additional fee of $40.

Other Water Tests

Private businesses offer water testing for anything from $25 to $400 depending on the extensiveness of the tests.

You can find some popular at major retailers online:

• Kits on Amazon go for between $20 and $30.
• At Home Depot they are about $30.
• A simple test kit at Walmart can be found for $16.
• Another simple test kit is available at Lowe’s for $13.

What Does a Water Test Include?

These tests could include testing for lead, arsenic, mercury, radium, atrazine, and other pesticides. You should check with your local health or environmental department, or the EPA to find out if any of these contaminants are a problem in your region.

Counties also provide routine reports of water contamination tests. Here you can find the Water Quality Report from Pinellas County for 2022.
