How Do I Get My Local Water Tested?

In this post we will address a common question that the public have been searching: “How do I get my local water tested?”

Let’s explore the different options that are available in Florida.

Government Water Testing

In Florida, each county has a The Florida Department of Health that sells drinking water test kits with instructions to collect the sample yourself. These currently go for $20.

In some cases, county staff can go to your home and collect the samples for you, usually for an additional fee of $40.

Other Water Tests

Private businesses offer water testing for anything from $25 to $400 depending on the extensiveness of the tests.

You can find some popular at major retailers online:

What Does a Water Test Include?

These tests could include testing for lead, arsenic, mercury, radium, atrazine, and other pesticides. You should check with your local health or environmental department, or the EPA to find out if any of these contaminants are a problem in your region.

Counties reports also provide valuable information about water contamination levels. Here you can find the Water Quality Report from Pinellas County for 2022.
