Reclaimed water is water that is derived from wastewater and sewage after thorough treatment. Though reclaimed water may not be used for drinking, it is widely used for irrigation, fire extinction and to help replenish aquifers. There is debate as to the health risk associated with drinking reclaimed water even after thorough treatment. Bacteria such as Giardia and cryptosporidium can survive the treatment, and this poses a threat to humans. Here are steps of reclaiming;
Step 1; Filter with Reverse Osmosis
A reverse osmosis filtration system is the most effective method for filtering out impurities in water. It uses the pressure to separate contaminated water from clean water using a special membrane between the chambers.
Step 2; use ultraviolet light
Ultraviolet light destroys viruses, pathogens, bacteria and any other living microorganisms that might be in water. Water is passed through the chambers that have UV light.
Step 3; test the water
Test the water for any pathogens after UV treatment. This is the only way to ensure that reclaimed water is safe for use.
