HOW WATER SOFTEBING IS DONE

Basically, hard water contains high levels of dissolved positive metallic ions such as magnesium and calcium. Particularly, water from underground aquifers such as wells and boreholes are likely to contain dissolved minerals as the water is in contact with rocks bearing such minerals. Calcium and magnesium are such minerals likely to be found in such water in an ionic solution.

Water hardness varies depending on total amount of minerals dissolved. Typically, water hardness is articulated in terms of dissolved calcium carbonate in units of mg/1, pip or grains/gallons. In US, Geological survey and the Department of the Interior articulates 60 mg/1 and below as soft water. Water between 60 mg/1 – 120 mg/1 is moderately hard while above 120 mg/1 is considered to be hard water.

Water testing and analysis is crucial in determining if actually that water is hard and the degree of hardness. This is usually done on suspecting that you are using hard water. There are issues which are likely to portray water hardness and they may lead you to want to ascertain the reality of the situation.

Generally, hard water is unfriendly to use because it renders cleaning agents such as detergents ineffective. These minerals react with chemicals in soaps to form scum which stains surfaces and makes clothes dull. Often, surface water rarely contains these minerals but occasionally such water can be found to be hard too. Calcium is evident in water as white sediments which forms stains on surfaces when such water is used. These stains result in discoloration of surfaces. These stains are hard and costly too to remove.

Hard water will not spare your household appliances especially water boilers and kettles. It will form a scale on the inside creating an insulation which will not only slow down heating but also increase heating costs. Hard water is not good on the skin either. The minerals rob your skin of natural oils leaving it dry and dull. Your hair also will look dull and become brittle as it’s robbed of natural oils. Hair loss is inevitable as it looses its elasticity.

However, you can soften your water and enjoy the goodness that comes with the use of soft water. Glossy skin, elastic and stronger hair comes with the use of soft water. Shinier surfaces and brighter clothes with a little effort will make your life more fulfilled when you use soft water.

How is hard water made soft?

Depending on the degree of water hardness, it can be classified as temporary hard or permanently hard. Temporal water hardness can be removed by boiling whereas permanent hardness can be removed by deionization.

The process of Deionization.

This process involves ion-exchange in a rapid yet reversible process in which contaminant ions are replaced by those from an ion-exchange resin while the resin takes up the contaminant ions. Factually, this occurs in the context of water sanitization. There are two types of ion-exchange resins; anion-exchange and cation-exchange resins. Cation-exchange resins releases hydrogen (H+) ions for exchange with contaminant cations found in water. Meanwhile, Anion-exchange resins release hydroxyl (OH-) ions in exchange for contaminant anions found in water.

This technology is readily available and is wrapped up in a Reverse Osmosis system which can be obtained at a low cost with Purity Bay LLC. You no longer have to put up with the woes of hard water as Purity Bay LLC provides you with a system that will provide mountain fresh water for your entire home.
